Today’s iconic Dolomites Vertical Kilometer® didn’t disappoint and it was an uphill battle all the way to a breathless summit at 2,465m altitude.

France’s Christel Dewalle took the day in the women’s field, closing in 38’21”, 1’37” ahead of Norway’s Eli Anne Dvergsdal and, race favourite and Vertical World Champion, Laura Orgué, 1’41”. Laura still holds the 38’14” record.

Race favourite, Urban Zemmer, the previous record holder and 4-times winner of the race, powered up the first half the 2,4 km course. Only Goetsch could hold the pace behind him.

It was at the col on the last stretch that Goetsch changed gear and overtook Zemmer to take the win and the record. The 3rd and 4th positions were battled out between Slovenian Nejc Kuhar and Columbian Saul Padua Rodriguez, with Rodriguez overtaking Kuhar.
