U23 ORIGIN
The Skyrunner®️ World Series has named the new under-23 ranking ‘TROFEO ESTEBAN OLIVERO U23’, in memory of Esteban Olivero, the young Skyrunner who tragically lost his life at the end of 2023.
With the blessing of his family, the trophy will be in memory of Esteban Olivero. Olivero joined the circuit in 2023 and after only a few races had already made his mark on the world of skyrunning, not only as a champion, but also as a genuine and kind person and a true sportsman. Esteban was registered for the 2024 season, however, he sadly passed away in a skiing accident shortly before Christmas. Esteban was only 22 years old when he died. He represented the future of the sport.
ABOUT U23 SERIES
The new ranking aims to support, highlight, and protect young athletes who are entering the sport and provide them with a platform to be recognized, while also fostering a safe and healthy racing environment. The ranking will offer separate prize money for the top five, a separate points system, and a separate winner’s bib.
The category will only be available to athletes under 23 years old before the final. The ranking will take into account the young athlete’s THREE best race results plus the FINAL. Athletes can ONLY score points for the U23 ranking in selected YOUTH RACES. All these races are official Skyrunner®️ World Series races, therefore, they go through the same course as the adult races, but have been selected because they have less distance and elevation compared to other races on the circuit.
U23 FINAL AT SOBRESCOBIO
The final of the U23, will be the Sobrescobio Skyrace in Asturias, Spain on the 26th October. The course will be through the amazing Redes Natural Park which during the autumn season, its breathtaking mountains and forests, are even more magic. A fast and technical route of 17km and 1,100 meters of elevation, which combines runnable climbs with steep descents that will take your breath away. Young athletes will have to show their best skyrunning skills to be proclaimed as the best woman and man of the U23 Trofeo Esteban Olivero 2025.
