ANTHAMATTEN AND MUGAKI TAKE HOME TITLES AT MADEIRA SKYRACE

 The MSR – Madeira Sky Race gathered the elite of the discipline to battle it out on the spectacular, diverse and technical 11th race of the 2021 Skyrunner World Series.

The winner of the the 56km course with over 4,000 meters of elevation was swiss athlete Martin Anthamatten, (team Adidas Terrex), who completed the race in a time of 6h11’23”. Anthamatten led the race from the beginning, always keeping a 4-minute gap between himself and second place.

The second place was guaranteed by the Portuguese athlete Miguel Arsénio, (team Bifase Trail Team), who after a fierce fight with Ricardo Ballester (team Dynafit) of Spain, managed to increase the advantage and guarantee the second place and the “title” of the best local Portuguese. Arsénio finished with a time of 06h17’59”, and Ballester followed 11 minutes after.

In the women’s race, the race was disputed between four athletes. Johanna Gelfgren of Sweden dominated in the beginning of the race, but her withdrawal brought the athlete from the Basque Country, Mayi Mugika to the first place, who never let go until the finish line. Mugikai crossed the finish line with a time of 7h16’13”. Second place went to Natalia Mastrota of Italy (Team Vibram). Closing the podium was Romanian Oana Mihalcea, with a time of 7h53’41”.
