SAGALASSOS SKYRACE, TURKEY, IS ANNOUNCED AS NEW 2024 SKYRUNNER® WORLD SERIES RACE

Get ready to run on the summits of fire and light. The Skyrunner® World Series has unveiled Sagalassos Skyrace as the third new race for 2024. The Turkish Skyrace summits the peaks that surround the ancient city of Sagalassos in the province of Burdur, Turkey.

The 27-kilometre route, with 2,200 meters of elevation gain starts in the Mediterranean town of Aglasun in the Turkish province of Burdur, known for it’s ancient cities and spectacular lakes.

The race itself is as historical as it is technical, with the course reaching the magnificent peaks that surround the archeological site of the ancient city of Sagalassos, from which the race is named after. Human settlement in this area goes back to 8000 BCE and it became one of the wealthiest cities in Roman Imperial times.

Next November, skyrunners from around the world will look down on the ruins of the ancient city including an ancient Roman theatre, imperial baths and the Nymphaeum of Antoninus Pius.

Sagalassos Skyrace Race Director, Abdullah Özdemir, comments: “Sagalassos Skyrace is bursting with ancient history. As well as its technical trails on the surrounding summits, the race also passes through the ancient city of Sagalassos, something we believe will be special for the international athletes who will visit us next year. We have a motto that says the “track of light and fire is waiting for you” – for the race, we light up the mountains with fire towers to show this during the race.”

Sagalassos Skyrace will take place on the weekend of the 11th of November 2024.

The complete calendar and full information on the points system, SkyMasters qualification, and ranking, shall be unveiled at the 2023 SkyMasters on the 28th of October.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates coming soon.
