The SkyMasters will take place from Esilda Ain, in Spain on the 16th of November 2024. The Trofeo Eseban Olivero U23 Final will run on the 17th of November 2024 – the day following the SkyMasters.
Marato dels Dements and Mitja d’Ain, the SkyMasters and U23 race respectively, are the season finals and award more points compared to other races in the Merrell Skyrunner® World Series.
The Marato dels Dements SkyMasters will significantly shape the overall standings for the 2024 Merrell Skyrunner® World Series. Athletes that finish in the top 10 will take a share of the €93,500 overall season prize pool.
Mitja d’Ain, will similarly affect the Trofeo Esteban Olivera U23 standings. The top 3 men and women from the U23 category will take a share of €6,500.
Marato dels Dements is one of the longest events in the 2024 Series calendar. The course is 43km and climbs over 3,800m.
Mitja d’Ain is 23km and climbs more than 2,000m.
Dements is not just a race, is is the very essence of Eslida and Ain, where a connection between the event and the environment is the ambition of the Organisation.
The event is organised by the Club de Muntanya Dements, with collaboration of the Councils of Esilda and Ain, the Diputacion de Castello, and the Natural Park of Serra d’Espada. The organisers are supported by more than 400 passionate volunteers.
Marato dels Dements runs entirely within the natural park of the Serra d’Espada, a paradise of biodiversity and spectacular landscapes. In addition to the wealth of natural beauty that the park boasts, the area is framed by picturesque villages with unique charm and deep histories.
The SkyMasters is the most consequential race in the Merrell Skyrunner® World Series. It is the final race of the season and is only open to runners who have gained qualification during the season*. The Skymasters awards 2 times the number of points compared to a SkyRace.
To qualify for the SkyMasters, athletes must compete in and complete at least four SkyRaces, finishing in the top 20 in at least one. The criteria for an invite is outlined below:
*SkyMan reserves the right to allow SkyMasters entry to athletes who have not met the criteria listed above (Wild Cards). The selection of the Wild Cards will be made by SkyMan in consultation with Organizers.
An invitation to the SkyMasters does not guarentee free entry, accommodation, or travel subsidy. Entries will be distributed as follows:
Anyone competing in the SkyMasters is eligible for the prize money irrespective of their route to qualification. If an athlete tests positive for a banned substance, the athlete will not be awarded prize money, and if already received, shall pay it back to the organisation.
In 2024, SkyMan shall distribute an “End of Season Bonus Pool” of €100,000 within 90-days of the Series completion. This 90-day is a measure taken to ensure that athletes have passed doping controls. €93,500 is distributed between the overall ranked top-10 males and females, with an additional €6,500 distributed between the top-3 males and females in the youth category.
To obtain a share of the Overall Prize Money athletes are required to have competed in and completed the SkyMasters irrespective of their ranking. Additionally, to obtain a share of the Overall Prize Money athletes are required to have completed four Merrell Skyrunner® World Series in addition to the SkyMasters.
The highest number of points you have received at four SkyRaces and the SkyMasters (5-races in total) will count towards the overall ranking position for the 2024 season.
*Athletes who compete in the SkyMasters who have not competed in at least 4 Merrell Skyrunner® World Series races this season (2024) will NOT be given points for the SkyMasters.
