The Skyrunner® World Series has announced the exciting late addition of Sobrescobio Skyrace to the 2024 calendar. The 18th stage of the now 21-race season will take place on the 27th of October in Sobrescobio, Spain.

The official skyrunning circuit previously unveiled it’s 20+ calendar at the final race of the season in Limone in late October, with the possibility of more races being announced at a later date.

The 32-kilometre course of new addition, Sobrescobio Skyrace, is a mixture of tracks, fast trails, and technical sections with 2,100 meters of elevation gain. It is a circular route through the magic Redes National Park and Biosfera reserve, well-known for its amazing forests, rocky crests, and muddy paths. The course alternates the classic ‘skyrunning’ steep climbs, fast downhills and stretches of technical terrain where extreme focus is required. It is an inspirational experience in which Skyrunners must challenge their limits until the finish line.

Juan Fuego, race director, comments:

“We have been working for years to make Sobrescobio Skyrace an international event and now as part of the Skyrunner® World Series, this dream has come true. Becoming a part of this acclaimed circuit is the result of hard work of everyone involved and years of commitment and dreaming. The Skyrunner® World Series shares our values and we look forward to welcoming the world’s best athletes to Sobresobio next October.”

The aim of the extended calendar and the new elite athlete programme, which will be introduced next season, is to present more opportunities for athletes to compete in the circuit with more races and new international locations.

With the addition of Sobrescobio Skyrace and a new race in Malaysia (which will be announced early next year) and the removal of Limone Skyrace, the 2024 calendar will now feature 20 races plus the SkyMasters, therefore 21races in total.
