Greece · Mount Olympus · High-Alpine Technical Trails
Olympus Marathon takes athletes across the legendary slopes of Mount Olympus, Greece’s highest mountain and one of the most famous peaks in the world.
The race covers approximately 44 km with around 3,200 metres of ascent, starting near the ancient city of Dion before climbing deep into the mountain. The route reaches approximately 2,780 metres before descending towards Litochoro, combining forest trails, rocky alpine terrain and long technical descents.
Olympus Marathon features one of the longest continuous climbs found in skyrunning, taking runners from close to sea level into the high mountains of Mount Olympus.
The first half of the course gains more than 2,800 metres of elevation, with runners moving through forests before reaching exposed rocky terrain near the highest sections of the route.
The long descent towards Litochoro demands strong legs and concentration after the sustained climbing. Technical trails, steep gradients and rapidly changing mountain conditions make pacing especially important.f
Plan your journey around Litochoro, the main town at the foot of Mount Olympus and the centre of the Olympus Marathon event.
The nearest major airport is Thessaloniki, with onward connections available by road, bus and rail towards Litochoro. The local railway station is located outside the town, so additional transport may be required.
Thessaloniki Macedonia International Airport (SKG)
Litochoro is the most convenient base for the race, offering hotels, guesthouses and other accommodation close to Mount Olympus.
