Launching on August 7, 2027
The Pikes Peak Skybound Marathon is a new mountain road racing event taking place on Pikes Peak, America’s Mountain, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Launching on August 7, 2027, the event offers runners the opportunity to challenge themselves on one of America’s most iconic mountains, climbing the famous Pikes Peak Highway to an elevation of 14,115 feet (4,302 metres).
Featuring both marathon and half marathon distances, the event combines the familiarity of paved road racing with sustained climbing, high altitude and spectacular mountain scenery.
Organised through a partnership between Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, Satori Endurance and Skyman Inc., the inaugural event aims to attract road runners and experienced mountain athletes from across the world.
The Pikes Peak Skybound Marathon takes place entirely on the paved Pikes Peak Highway, providing a unique alternative to traditional trail-based mountain races.
Both distances begin at approximately 9,236 feet (2,815 metres), with runners tackling a continuous mountain ascent towards the summit of Pikes Peak.
The full marathon takes runners from the starting point up to the 14,115-foot summit before turning around and descending the same mountain highway.
With approximately 5,170 feet (1,576 metres) of climbing, the course presents a demanding combination of sustained uphill running, extreme altitude and a lengthy downhill finish.
The half marathon follows the same mountain highway but finishes at the summit of Pikes Peak.
Participants will climb more than 5,000 vertical feet over 13.1 miles, making it a demanding uphill road race with spectacular views across Colorado.
Unlike traditional mountain races, both distances take place on a fully paved surface, allowing road runners to experience the challenge of high-altitude mountain racing.
