Santiago, Chile · 35 km · 3,500 m+
The Andes Mountain Marathon is a powerful high-altitude challenge in the Skyrunner World Series, set in the dramatic mountains surrounding Santiago, Chile. This loop-format Skyrace® climbs deep into the Andes, combining steep alpine ascents, rugged technical ridgelines and long, punishing climbs into thin air. With a massive 3,500 m+ of vertical gain across 35 km, this race is a true endurance and altitude test for elite athletes and U23 competitors.
The Andes Mountain Marathon climbs to extreme altitude, reaching a maximum elevation of 5,400 m as athletes enter thin, icy air and rugged alpine terrain.
The loop begins near Santiago before ascending sharply into rocky, exposed ridgelines that provide panoramic views of the Andes. Loose ground, high-altitude fatigue and dramatic elevation changes define the course, demanding exceptional strength, resilience and oxygen management from runners. Long, steep climbs and fast technical descents make this one of the toughest races in the series.
Santiago is one of South America’s best-connected capitals, making the Andes Mountain Marathon easy to access for international athletes.
Santiago International Airport (SCL) – Closest and main hub
