Georgetown, Malaysia · 30 km · 2,400 m+
The Kailas Penang Skyrace® is a tropical testpiece in the Skyrunner World Series, taking athletes deep into the humid rainforest and steep ridgelines of Penang Island. Based in Georgetown, this loop-format Skyrace® combines dense jungle climbs, root-covered technical ground and exposed ridge running with views over the Strait of Malacca. With 2,400 m+ of elevation across 30 km, it is a tough and atmospheric challenge for elite and U23 skyrunners.
The Kailas Penang Skyrace® climbs sharply from Georgetown into the lush slopes and ridgelines of Penang Hill.
Athletes face humid tropical conditions, thick jungle canopy, steep root-covered ascents and fast, slippery descents through dense vegetation. As the route reaches the upper ridges, runners enjoy airy, technical traverses with sweeping views of Penang and the coastline below. Heat, humidity and technical terrain combine to make this a true Southeast Asian endurance challenge.
Penang Island is well connected internationally, with most athletes flying directly into Penang before making a short transfer to Georgetown.
Penang International Airport (PEN) – Closest and most convenient
Kuala Lumpur (KUL) – Major international hub with connecting flights
Singapore (SIN) – Additional long-haul gateway with transfers
