Limone Skyrace Extreme takes athletes into the steep mountains surrounding Limone sul Garda on the shores of Lake Garda in northern Italy.
The race combines sustained climbs, narrow mountain trails and highly technical descents, with the dramatic landscape of Lake Garda providing the backdrop. Its steep terrain and demanding course helped establish Limone as one of the most recognisable events in international skyrunning.
Limone’s challenge comes from the steep mountains that rise directly above Lake Garda. Runners quickly move from the lakeside environment onto demanding mountain terrain, where sustained climbing and technical descending play a major role.
The course has featured around 23 km of racing with more than 2,000 metres of elevation gain, packing a significant amount of climbing into a relatively short distance.
Technical trails require confident footwork and concentration, particularly on the descents. Runners need to balance aggressive climbing with enough control and strength to handle the later stages of the race.
