The Mexico Sky Challenge is one of the most explosive and high-altitude races in the Skyrunner World Series. Taking place in Orizaba, Mexico, the course rises from lush forest to rugged volcanic slopes, pushing athletes into technical, exposed, and oxygen-thin terrain. Known for its demanding climbs and dramatic scenery, the Mexico Sky Challenge hosts both elite skyrunners and rising talent in the U23 category.
The Mexico Sky Challenge is a high-altitude volcanic course that climbs toward the slopes of Pico de Orizaba, Mexico’s tallest mountain.
The 35 km route delivers 3,600 m+ of elevation gain, beginning in dense forest before rising into exposed volcanic terrain where altitude, heat and loose technical ground challenge every athlete. Fast, rocky descents and steep switchbacks define much of the course, making it one of the most physically demanding races in the Skyrunner World Series.
The Mexico Sky Challenge is easily reached via domestic and international flights, with most athletes travelling to Veracruz or Mexico City before transferring by road to Orizaba.

Accommodation is available across several nearby towns, with the most convenient options found in Orizaba, Ciudad Mendoza and Nogales, all offering a mix of hotels, rentals and guesthouses with easy access to the race region.

Volcanic terrain can be loose; strong-grip shoes advised
