Zakopane, Poland · 45 km · 3,300 m+ · 2,150 m High Point
The Tatra Skymarathon is a demanding alpine race in the Skyrunner World Series, set in Poland’s rugged High Tatras above Zakopane. This loop-format Skyrace® takes athletes over steep granite terrain, exposed ridgelines and expansive alpine valleys. With 3,300 m+ of ascent across 45 km, the race is one of the longer and more physically punishing challenges on the calendar — ideal for strong climbers and technical mountain runners.
The Tatra Skymarathon traverses some of the most iconic landscapes in the High Tatras.
Athletes climb through forested lower slopes before reaching rocky alpine terrain, where granite ridges, exposed sections and technical boulder fields define the upper route. Long, steep climbs and demanding descents test endurance and precision. With sweeping views of valleys and jagged summit lines, this race offers a classic high-mountain skyrunning experience.
Zakopane is easily reached from Kraków, with direct transport links into the Tatra Mountains.
Kraków Airport (KRK) – Closest and main international access point
Katowice Airport (KTW) – Alternative international option
Poprad Airport (TAT) – Regional airport on the Slovak side
Zakopane and surrounding mountain towns offer extensive accommodation options, with the most convenient stays in Zakopane, Kościelisko and Poronin, providing easy access to the race venue and Tatra trail network.
