The Ueda Skyrace® is a technical, high-energy race in the Skyrunner World Series, held in the steep mountains surrounding Ueda City in Japan. This loop-format Skyrace® blends dense forest climbs, rocky ridge running, and fast technical descents through some of Japan’s most beautiful spring landscapes. With 3,000 m+ of elevation packed into 24 km, the race is compact, intense and known for its sharp gradients and electric atmosphere.
The Ueda Skyrace® climbs sharply from Ueda City into rugged Japanese mountain trails, where dense forest paths quickly rise into rocky ridges overlooking the region.
The loop features steep climbing sections, narrow technical traverses and fast, demanding descents that reward confident footwork. With constant elevation changes and a blend of soft forest ground and sharp rocky features, the course offers a uniquely intense skyrunning experience rooted in Japan’s natural mountain tradition.
Ueda is easily accessible from Tokyo and other major Japanese cities, with athletes typically arriving via bullet train or regional flights.
Tokyo Haneda (HND) – Major international airport with fast rail access
Tokyo Narita (NRT) – International hub with transfers to Ueda via Shinkansen
Matsumoto Airport (MMJ) – Regional alternative closer to Ueda
Ueda and nearby areas offer a range of accommodation options, with the most convenient stays found in Ueda City, Shiodadaira and Bessho Onsen, providing easy access to the race venue and relaxing post-race recovery options.
