The Ultraks Matterhorn Skyrace is one of the most iconic alpine races in the Skyrunner World Series, held in the legendary mountain town of Zermatt. This loop-format Skyrace® climbs into the shadow of the Matterhorn, weaving through glacial terrain, rocky ridgelines and steep alpine paths. With 3,175 m+ of ascent over 27 km and a high point of 3,337 m, the race delivers world-class scenery and technical challenges worthy of its global reputation.
The Ultraks Matterhorn Skyrace climbs from Zermatt into the high alpine zone, where rocky ridgelines, glacial terrain and steep technical climbs define the route.
Athletes gain altitude quickly before traversing exposed sections with panoramic views of the Matterhorn and surrounding 4,000-m peaks. The loop includes long, demanding ascents and fast but technical descents, making it a true alpine skyrunning test that rewards steady pacing and confident footwork at altitude.
Zermatt is car-free and accessed by train from Täsch or via major Swiss transport hubs.
