Sara Alonso

Sara Alonso is from San Sebastián in the Basque Country, around 40 minutes from Zegama, the race she won on home soil. A former steeplechase athlete, she transitioned to trail running in 2020 after a class trip to the Pyrenees.

After injury and illness interrupted her progress, she returned with a series of major victories and podiums. Her speed, climbing ability and racing instinct have established her as one of Spain’s leading mountain runners.
